Issue 413 - Model Y’s affordable trims get new interior features
Model 3
2026 Model 3 RWD tops Edmunds’ EV efficiency test
Edmunds’ real-world range test found the 2026 Model 3 RWD traveled 393 miles on a full charge, beating its 363-mile EPA estimate while delivering 4.61 miles per kWh.
FSD
European FSD expansion continues with Denmark approval
Denmark is now the fourth European country to approve Full Self-Driving, building on the regulatory framework established by Dutch authorities. While the approval is provisional pending EU-wide review, this marks another step in a rapid expansion, with Lithuania, Estonia, and the Netherlands already on board and Belgium and Ireland likely next.
New FSD safety data from the Netherlands shows strong results
The first set of localized Full Self-Driving (Supervised) safety data from the Netherlands shows FSD is 3.5 times safer than manual driving on Dutch roads, with major drops in collisions, harsh braking, and emergency braking events. The system's smooth driving and ability to navigate complex European streets reinforce the claim that FSD performs as well or better in dense, complicated urban environments than in its native North American test areas. This data is likely to accelerate further regulatory approvals for FSD across Europe.
FSD Supervised takes a traffic-saving route
Tesla reposted a driver’s FSD v14.3.3 "Mad Max" video showing the car use a Rt. 1 exit route to bypass highway traffic before reconnecting to I-76, adding that "FSD Supervised doesn’t waste your time."
What to expect from FSD v14 Lite this month
FSD v14 Lite will finally roll out to HW3 vehicles this month, bringing features like automatic parking, improved emergency vehicle handling, automatic gear shifting, and point-to-point autonomy that HW4 owners already enjoy. While HW3 cars will not receive higher-resolution video or the full neural net size due to hardware limitations, they should still see much smoother and more capable self-driving in day-to-day use.
Robotaxi
Major robotaxi permit filed in Nevada, targeting Las Vegas expansion
A filing has been made to operate up to 5,000 robotaxis in Las Vegas and surrounding Clark County, covering major transportation hubs including both local airports. If approved, this would mark the largest autonomous fleet deployment yet, giving the company a foothold in a high-demand, high-visibility market. Interested parties can submit comments on the application through early July, so it remains to be seen if the ambitious plan will move forward.
Model Y
DIY retrofit fixes a common feature complaint on Model Y
A Model Y owner tackled the longtime issue of overheating phones on the wireless charging pad by retrofitting a cooled wireless charger from the China-made Model YL. The swap was affordable and fit seamlessly, thanks to matching connectors, but required some custom coding to fully function. This DIY solution is a practical workaround that addresses a glaring comfort flaw, and it seems the improved pad may soon arrive officially in U.S. vehicles.
Model Y’s affordable trims get new interior features
The affordable Model Y RWD and AWD trims have been updated with an all-black headliner and a higher-quality 16-inch center screen, features previously exclusive to the Premium models. While these upgrades help streamline production and make the interiors feel more upscale, the lower-priced versions still lack perks like A/C seats, glass roof, and premium stereo, but they remain solid options with good range and performance. New ‘Coastal Blue’ Model Y color launches in Europe 📷
A new "Coastal Blue" paint option has been added for the entry-level Model Y RWD in Europe, priced as a €1,300 upgrade and produced at the Berlin Gigafactory. This new shade offers buyers more visual variety, sitting between the darker Marine Blue and the pale Frost Blue found on other Tesla variants, though it is currently exclusive to Europe. Given past patterns, it is likely Coastal Blue could arrive in North America in the future.
Roadster
Roadster unveiling delayed again as new event details leak
The next-generation Roadster unveiling has reportedly been delayed once more, now expected for August in Texas, though this has not been officially confirmed. Alongside the actual car, the event is rumored to feature the high-performance SpaceX package, potentially including hover capabilities. Given the history of pushing back Roadster timelines, it is wise to view this new date skeptically until formal event invitations are issued.
🤓 What the acronym
As a Tesla fan, I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.
