Tesla delivers first new Model Ys to owners 📹
Tesla has successfully commenced deliveries of its refreshed Model Y and released a video of them to celebrate it.
Tesla affordable EV coming this year is a smaller Model Y
Tesla is gearing up to introduce a more affordable electric vehicle, now dubbed the "E41 Project," to compete in the global market, starting with mass production in Shanghai this year. This new offering, known as a smaller Model Y, will be at least 20% cheaper to manufacture than its predecessor thanks to cost-saving strategies and existing technology. Despite uncertainty around its exact specifications, it's anticipated to utilize components from the current Model 3 and Model Y, although specific design and powertrain details remain under wraps.
Software Updates
Tesla App 4.43.0 release notes 📷
This latest app update brings multiple enhancements, particularly for the Cybertruck and AI assistant features. The Cybertruck's suspension height adjustment is being gradually rolled out within the app, making it easier for owners to customize their ride height. Additionally, Tesla has significantly upgraded its AI assistant, allowing it to provide more vehicle-specific information, including miles driven, software version, and more.
Tesla introduces battery health testing in latest update 📷
Tesla's latest software update, 2025.8.3, now allows owners to perform a battery health test directly from the main interface, easing previous constraints of needing professional diagnostics. The test, accessed through Controls > Service > Battery Health, enables users to gauge battery health and recalibrates the battery management system for a more precise range estimate. Additionally, the Energy app now includes detailed energy consumption insights, enhancing vehicle use understanding.
Model Y
Tesla boosts legacy Model Y discounts in Canada and US
Tesla has substantially increased discounts on their legacy Model Y inventory in both Canada and the U.S. to make these previous-generation models more attractive. In Canada, discounts for the Model Y can now exceed $11,000, with significant markdowns on the Performance and Long Range versions. In the U.S., buyers can enjoy discounts of up to $7,000, further enhanced by the federal EV tax credit, reducing the price of a Performance model to as low as $37,000. These offers aim to clear out older stock as the refreshed Model Y, featuring updated interiors and improved soundproofing, becomes the new standard.

Tesla enhances Model Y with rear casting improvements
Tesla has made significant updates to the Model Y's manufacturing process, notably eliminating the front casting to streamline assembly and enhance interchangeability across global factories. The rear casting has been redesigned, reducing its weight by 15%, which improves vehicle dynamics, range, and structural stiffness while cutting machining time by 60%. These advancements are a result of Tesla's innovative casting methods, including the use of conformal cooling and real-time temperature analysis, contributing to faster production cycles at Giga Texas, Berlin, and Fremont.
Cybertruck
Tesla updates Powershare feature for Cybertruck with key advancements
Tesla's Powershare, initially exclusive to the Cybertruck, allows the vehicle's vast 123kWh battery to power a home in tandem with a Tesla PowerShare setup. Recent updates have now overcome software conflicts, enabling PowerShare for homes with solar backup, integrating seamless power options during outages. In Q3 2025, PowerShare will become available to Powerwall owners with a Wall Connector Gen 3, pivoting on regulatory approvals rather than hardware changes.

Tesla gains initial approval for autonomous vehicle operations in California
Tesla has obtained preliminary approval from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) for operating Robo-taxis, marking a significant milestone in their ride-hailing dreams. The transportation charter-party permit will initially allow Tesla to use its own vehicles, driven by employee drivers, to transport staff on a pre-arranged basis. However, this is not a traditional rideshare approval, as Tesla hasn't yet ventured into CPUC's Autonomous Vehicle Programs or acquired the required DMV clearance for driverless services.
🤓 What the acronym
As a Tesla fan, I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.
CPUC: California Public Utilities Commission
